Purpose

Help to keep an important part of New Zealand's Heritage alive! Inspire and inform visitors by running scheduled tours at their unique industrial heritage museum in South Dunedin!

Description

The Dunedin Gasworks Museum is a small industrial history museum based on the site of New Zealand's oldest gasworks, in South Dunedin.
It is one of only three known preserved gasworks museums in the world, and is a significant local and world heritage site.

They have a magnificent collections of Edwardian era steam pumping engines. On steaming days, you will be there to help the Boiler Operator make sure that everything is running smoothly.

As Steam Engineering Assistant you will:

• Provide support to the Boiler Operator

• Perform safety checks

Training and Skills:

• All training is supplied by experienced staff - they'll show you what to do!

• Boiler awareness safety training

Requirements

• Conscientious

• Reliable

• Practical

• Good verbal communication skills

• Good attention to detail

• A background or interest in engineering

Time commitment

• You will need to commit to one Sunday afternoon per month

• Ideally, they would like volunteers to commit to at least a year
