Taieri Network is a place-based community group in the Taieri focused on supporting, connecting and coordinating community-led initiatives and the community.
Description
Help local rangatahi (13–18) develop leadership skills and share their voice in community events and decision-making through the Taieri Network Youth Advisory Panel.
As part of their commitment to supporting the future of our community, Taieri Network is establishing a Youth Advisory Panel. This initiative will give local rangatahi aged 13–18 a platform to share their perspectives, contribute ideas, and participate in conversations about issues that matter to young people in the Taieri. The panel aims to empower youth voices and support the development of youth leadership within the community.
Taieri Network are excited to launch their Youth Advisory Panel, and are looking for a passionate and motivated Coordinator to help lead and support this initiative.
About the Youth Advisory Panel: The panel will consist of students from Year 9 to Year 13, providing them with a platform to share their ideas, perspectives, and feedback on matters that affect young people in our community. They will be able to plan and run initiatives that matter to them. The goal is to empower students to develop leadership skills, build confidence, and contribute meaningfully to decision-making processes.
About the Coordinator Role: Taieri Network are seeking a cordinator who can relate to students and support them in a peer-mentoring capacity. This is a volunteer leadership opportunity ideal for someone looking to gain experience in youth engagement, leadership, facilitation, or community development.
Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate and facilitate Youth Advisory Panel meetings
Support students (Years 9–13) to share ideas confidently and respectfully
Assist in planning agendas and activities
Encourage inclusive participation from all members
Act as a bridge between the panel and the organisation
Provide mentorship and leadership support to panel members

Passionate about youth voice and leadership
Strong communication and organisational skills
Responsible, approachable, and supportive
Able to commit time consistently to meetings and planning
Police check for working with youth
Time commitment
This role involves facilitating meetings with the youth on a Monday evening every six weeks in Mosgiel.
There will be occasional weekend commitments for events that the youth choose to run.
There is also an expectation of some planning time meeting with the Trustee and Community Connector for events, funding applications and ongoing recruitment.
