Athletics New Zealand works alongside event partners to deliver the Emerson’s Dunedin Marathon, one of Otago's iconic running events. We rely on course marshals and volunteers to help provide a safe, enjoyable experience for hundreds of participants and supporters.

Description

The Emerson’s Dunedin Marathon brings together runners and walkers from across the country to experience the scenic Dunedin harbour and peninsula. The event features a range of distances, from 5km through to the full marathon, creating an inclusive experience for participants of all ages and abilities while showcasing the Otago region.

Volunteer Course Marshals Needed!

We are seeking enthusiastic Course Marshals to support the delivery of the 2026 Emerson's Dunedin Marathon!

As a Course Marshal, you'll play a vital role in ensuring participants are safely guided along the course.

Course marshals are provided with clear role instructions, event information, and on-the-day support from event organisers and Team Leaders.

Volunteers are allocated to positions based on their experience and preferences, helping ensure they feel confident and well-supported in their role.

Requirements

• ✅ No previous experience required

  ✅ Great way to support the local community

  Please note: Marshals must be 18 years or older. Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Time commitment

• 📅 Sunday, 13 September 2026

• ⏰ Volunteer shift: Approximately 4–6 hours (races begin from 7:00am)

• A Course Marshal briefing will be held in the week prior to the event to provide important health and safety information, outline role expectations, and give volunteers the opportunity to ask questions.
