Purpose
To support the smooth running of parkrun events by contributing to a welcoming, inclusive, and well-organised experience for participants. Volunteers play a vital role in creating a safe and enjoyable environment while building community connections.
Description
As a parkrun volunteer, you’ll be part of a friendly team helping to deliver a weekly event that promotes health, wellbeing, and social connection. Roles vary from setup and marshalling to barcode scanning and tail walking — many can be done alongside walking or running the course.
Tasks may include:
Setting up or packing down the course
Welcoming and guiding participants
Scanning barcodes or timing finishers
Marshaling key points on the route
Supporting accessibility roles (e.g. VI Guide)
Helping with results or communications
Volunteering is flexible, fun, and supported, you’ll always be part of a team and can choose roles that suit your comfort level and interests.
Requirements
What's provided (to you) on the day
No prior experience needed
All ages welcome (under 18s must be near a supervising adult)
Families, friends, and dogs (on short leads) are welcome
Smartphone required for some roles (e.g. barcode scanning)
High-vis vest provided on the day
Time commitment
Events run Saturday mornings at 8am
Most roles take 30–90 minutes, depending on the task
No minimum commitment — volunteer once or regularly
Option to stay for a post-event coffee with the team!
