Summer Camp Companion - Camp Quality South

Summer Camp Companion - Camp Quality South
Organisation
Camp Quality South
Purpose
Be part of their best week of the year - a volunteer opportunity to help children living with cancer enjoy a week of joy, play, and to get back to being kids again.
Description
Camp Quality is a charity that hosts summer camps around New Zealand for children living with cancer. The South region covers from Ashburton to Stewart Island and everywhere in between, with their summer camp held in Queenstown. Their camp brings fun, hope and happiness into the lives of children living with cancer – supporting them to get on with just being kids.
As a companion, you will be matched one-on-one with one of the approximately 30 campers.
You will be this campers buddy for the whole time you are at camp.
Care is taken in matching each camper and companion, and you will have time to reach out and get to know your camper prior to camp.
The week of camp will be jam-packed with plenty of fun activities and challenges.
You will participate in all the activities right alongside your camper, having a lot of fun together, challenging yourselves, and creating memories.
Training Required: You will be required to attend a weekend training, held in Waihola on 20th-21st September 2025
At camp, there are senior volunteers and companions available to support you. Any medical needs are handled by their nursing team. Accomodation and food are provided for both camp and training weekend.
There is no cost to volunteer, only your time. You will meet like-minded companions and often develop strong friendships that last beyond your time at camp. Transport to the summer camp is organised by Camp Quality (you will be collected from your home town, or a nearby town). However you will be required to make your own way to training weekend. Carpooling is encouraged and a Facebook group will be created so you can organise this with other companions ahead of time.
