Organisation

Otago Entomology Society

Purpose

The Society is a hub for those passionate about insects, bugs, and other invertebrates. We promote awareness, appreciation, and conservation of Aotearoa's 20,000+ species of bugs, many of which are found in Otago.

Description

Bug Day is an annual event held at Tūhura Otago Museum staffed by volunteers from the University, Polytech, and community. It showcases a range of activities and informational stations relating to bugs and insects - live animals, urban ecology, freshwater/marine, cultural representations, soil science, "Bug of the Year" voting - and is free to the public.

Volunteers help to run stations and engage visitors with the activities/games/info, as well as setup and cleanup stations.

No expertise with insects/bugs necessary, and training provided - there will be experts on-hand to direct questions to!

Training/Support

There will be a meeting in the week leading up to February 14th to go over the plan, provide informational resources, and answer any questions. Experts from the Entomology Society and Department of Zoology will be at the event to help answer any questions, and Connal available before the day to go over any material. Snacks provided at planning meetings and at Bug Day itself :)
