Organisation

Dunedin Midwinter Carnival Trust

Purpose

The Dunedin Midwinter Carnival is produced by Dunedin Midwinter Celebrations, a registered charitable trust based in Dunedin. They believe it is important to celebrate the distinct seasons in a way that is appropriate to our local environment.

Description

Dunedin Midwinter Carnival is a beautiful annual event, and celebration of the winter season, with large-scale installations of lanterns, performances and music. Join their creative community as they prepare for this iconic Dunedin event, happening this year Friday 27 and Saturday 28 June. Lantern Workshop Volunteers assist members of the public (especially children and families) to create their own lanterns for the Carnival. Volunteers will help set up, guide participants through the lantern-making process, and pack down after each session.

Ideal for people who are:

  • Enthusiastic and great at working with children

  • Confident communicators with a friendly, welcoming manner

  • Happy to get hands-on with art and craft activities

Students who participate can gain valuable experience, receive a reference letter, and we are happy to sign off university volunteering hours. All volunteers who work with us will also receive a kai, during their shift.

Time commitment

  1. Attend one Lantern Workshop Induction on either Saturday 17th May OR Sunday 18th May 2-4 PM
