What is a global citizen?

A global citizen takes ownership over their connectedness. They are mindful of the global implications of local actions, translating global issues to local action and being part of a community that goes beyond borders.

What is the Progamme?

The Matariki GCP is an initiative of the Matariki Network of Universities (MNU).

There are seven universities in the network:

1. Dartmouth (US)

2. Durham (UK)

3. Queen’s (Canada)

4. Tübingen (Germany)

5. UWA (Australia)

6. Uppsala (Sweden)

The WHY?

The Programme and Network exist to facilitate collaboration, discussion and reflection on issues of common concern between partner universities .

As part of the network, Otago Uni is committed to creating an inclusive, multicultural society, and pursuing social responsibility, both globally and locally.

The Matariki GC Programme seeks to promote and facilitate critical reflection of global citizenship at the Matariki Network Universities.

This aim is broken into three key strands: empowering learners; community engagement; and creating spaces for dialogue.
