Purpose
Volunteer as a young humanitarian facilitator and support 10 - 15-year-olds to take humanitarian action in their communities through New Zealand Red Cross Young Humanitarian programme.
Description
Volunteer to be a Young Humanitarians Facilitator and help support rangatahi (young people) to take humanitarian action in their communities. Young Humanitarians | Karawhiua! creates spaces for young people to voice their concerns for humanitarian issues like climate change, nuclear war and inclusion, and be part of the solutions.
Facilitators help foster meaningful conversations between young people and activities that make a meaningful difference, from streamside planting to packing welcome packs for former refugees. Facilitators may be required to supervise young people under 18. You will report to our volunteer-led branch, and receive guidance from staff, who will guide you through your volunteering journey.
Your tasks:
Delivering one or two educational workshops.
Facilitating discussion and activities around humanitarian issues.
Supporting rangatahi to connect content to action in their communities.
Providing feedback after the programme is delivered.
Requirements
Friendly
Care about the role of young people in humanitarian action
Care about sustainability
Have initiative and good communication skills.
Pass a police vetting check
Provide details of two referees. They could be your employer, professor, friend, or someone who knows you well.
Please note: Your referees can’t be related to you or part of your extended family, nor be your partner or spouse, nor live at the same address as you.
Time commitment
Dedicate three to four hours of your time per week.
Be flexible – shifts could vary from week to week.
